In a TV special, former Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger has gone public about her struggles with self-harm and eating disorders.
Describing it as “an addiction” and “embarrassing,” the star confesses that she was bulimic at the start of her career, and added that she had never spoken about it before out of shame and a sense of not wanting to portray herself as a victim.
By her own account, her issues with bulimia and self-harm caused her to feel “alone” and “disgusted with myself.” Her troubles hit a new level in 2003 when she was preparing to go on her first tour with the Pussycat Dolls.
Though she went out of her way to try to conceal her issues from her band mates, covering up the scars and cuts that were the result of her attempts at self-harm, Pussycat Dolls member Ashley Roberts said that the other girls “all knew” what Nicole was dealing with.
Scherzinger reports that in recent years she has been able to stop her self-harm and manage her bulimia.
